Where are you sending me?
Great question! But if we told you, that would ruin all the fun.
We send our travellers to every corner of North Island, the South Island, and even offshore islands around New Zealand like Stewart Island, Great Barrier Island and even the Chatham Islands. On average, travel times are 2-4 hours. If you have specific time or travel restrictions for your trip, please let us know on during the online survey.
We will not abandon you in the middle of nowhere - all of our destinations have more than enough going on to keep you busy for the length of your trip. Take a look at our reviews page or check out some real life examples to see where we've sent past travelers.
What if I know where I want to go?
We are working on adding new destinations all the time covering a wide range of destinations across New Zealand, but if you do have a destination already in mind, feel free to let us know in the comments section - we do take 'strong hints' seriously.
What if I don't want to go where you send me?
At New Zealand Insight, we know that every corner of New Zealand has a lot to offer. We celebrate open mindedness, and encourage you to do the same. We're sure that with the help of our recommendations, you'll stumble upon some hidden gems no matter where you go, and you might just fall in love with a place you knew nothing about.
What's the latest I can sign up?
The earlier you book your trip, the better. We require 10 days notice to plan our getaways.
Do I have to depart on the weekend?
You can depart any day of the week. When booking your trip, you’ll select your departure date and the number of nights for your trip.
Can I travel over school holidays/a holiday weekend?
Yes, but be mindful that you may want to increase your budget for trips that fall over school holidays, or on holiday weekends. Why? Travel + accommodation costs are higher during these peak travel dates, and we always want to get you to a destination that you will love!
Can travellers in the same group depart from different cities?
Yes! This is one of the major benefits of a New Zealand Insight trip. If each member of your group is departing from different places, it can get tricky to coordinate one destination - so we'll do it for you! On your online survey, you’ll tell us where each traveller lives, and we’ll do our best to have your flights arrive in your destination around the same time. Road trips don't always work as well - we might have you all depart from one place, depending on where you all live.
I have kids. Can they come, too?
Yes! We love planning trips for families. If your children have any specific interests (or any strong dislikes) please be sure to mention them on your online survey. We'll make sure to include plenty of family-friendly and age-appropriate recommendations so everyone will have a great time.
What about babies?
If your baby is less than 2 years old, they can fly for free. We'll need their date of birth for airline reservations.
Is there a maximum number of people that can travel on a trip?
You can add up to 6 travellers on the online survey. If you are interested in planning a trip for a larger group, please email us to plan further!
Can I bring my pet with me?
You can on our roadtrip experiences, but this will limit your options in regard to accommodation, so please keep this in mind.
How does payment work?
Upon completion of the online survey, we will check things over before we send you a link to make payment. You can choose to transfer directly from your bank to ours, use POLi to transfer funds, or pay with a credit card.
What's the difference between budget options?
Your budget determines where we send you, how you get there, and where you stay.
Are there any fees after I select my budget?
There are no additional fees or taxes. If you select a trip for two people at $1,000 per person, you will pay exactly $2,000. Once we receive your order and payment, we will build a trip for you with the goal of utilising your budget to the fullest. We take a small service fee, but the rest of your budget goes towards your trip. If you'd like to see the receipts for your reservations after your trip, we'll be more than happy to send them over!
Does my budget include food + activities?
Your budget will include at least 1 activity each day, but if that activity is free (e.g. Te Papa Museum), then we'll shout you dinner at a favourite restaurant instead.
Why is the minimum budget for Solo-Travelers higher than for Multi-Travelers?
A large portion of your budget goes toward the accommodations that we book for you. A hotel room will cost the same, whether one or two people are staying in it, so the price per traveller is lower if you have a travel companion. Solo travelers, we love you, but you're just a little more expensive!
Can my travel partner(s) and I pay separately?
Sure, just be sure to let us know you need to split payment, and we'll send over details to suit you.
Can you use my frequent flyer miles or hotel points?
In order to maintain the element of surprise, we do not accept frequent flyer numbers or hotel reward points. If we did, you'd be able to log in to your account to see your destination, and you would receive email notifications about your upcoming trip - this would spoil all the fun! The good news is that most airlines and hotels allow you to add your loyalty number after your trip, or even at check-in, so you can still get the points from your trip with us.
How do I know what to pack for my trip?
One week before you depart, we'll email you the some packing tips and let you know if you should bring anything specific on your trip, like a bathing suit or hiking boots.
All of our trips that include flights include one checked bag per person + one carry on bag and a small personal item too.
What types of accommodations do you book?
We let you choose your accommodation preferences during the online survey. We book our travelers in clean, safe, and well-reviewed accommodation.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please call or email if you think you may need to cancel your trip; we are here to help!
When booking your trip, you will be given the option to add Peace of Mind Insurance and this is strongly recommended to cover any unforseen cancellations. We are subject to the rules and regulations of the airlines, hotel, activity providers, who all have different refund and cancellation policies.
Why would I need Peace of Mind Insurance?
Although you're not required to purchase Peace of Mind Refund Assurance, your trip is not as protected without it. If you get sick, have a last minute business trip, or there is inclement weather on your travel dates, you may have to spend money out-of-pocket in order to shift, cancel, or adjust your trip. Peace of Mind insurance protects you from these unexpected problems by reimbursing you for travel expenses.
If something comes up we'll do our best to help you cancel or reschedule your trip, but we are at the mercy of the airlines, hotels, and other activity providers for refunds or credits.
What if something goes wrong while I'm away?
Our Traveller Support Team is available 24/7 by phone or email in case you need anything while you're on your trip. While we love adventure, we value safety.
Does New Zealand Insight have gift cards?
Yes we do! New Zealand Insight offers gift cards that start at $100. Once you purchase a gift card, you can have it emailed to yourself or directly to the gift recipient. For more info on gift cards, click here.
Can I get a refund for a gift card that I have purchased or received?
Our gift cards are non-refundable.
